Honouring the Legacy of Lone Pine: 2025 Commemoration

SYDNEY, 28 August  2025 –

At the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund, we are proud to support events that preserve the Anzac legacy and inspire the next generation of leaders. The 2025 Lone Pine Evening exemplifies the importance of remembrance, connecting veterans, scholars, and the broader community through stories of courage, sacrifice, and service.

“The Gallipoli Scholarship Fund (GSF) was honoured to co-host the 2025 Lone Pine Evening alongside the Gallipoli Memorial Club at a moving commemorative event held at The Mint in Sydney. This annual evening marks the remembrance of the Battle of Lone Pine, one of the most intense and heroic engagements of the Gallipoli Campaign.
The event was a meaningful gathering of supporters, veterans, students, and dignitaries, united in reflection and remembrance. Guests were treated to archival Lone Pine footage, capturing the raw spirit and sacrifice of those who fought during the Gallipoli campaign. The footage served as a powerful reminder of the enduring significance of this battle in Australia’s military history.

The evening was further elevated by the Keynote Address delivered by Sir Peter Cosgrove, Guest of Honour. A former Governor-General of Australia and decorated veteran, Sir Peter shared invaluable wartime reflections and deeply personal stories that resonated with every attendee.

Also in attendance was Dr. Brendan Nelson AO, whose unwavering support for veterans and scholars continues to inspire. Dr. Nelson offered a heartfelt student address, first delivered to The Southport School on the Gold Coast, honouring the legacy of Teddy Sheean VC, one of Australia’s most courageous naval heroes.

The Waverley College Cadet Unit provided an exceptional Honour Guard, standing proudly in tribute throughout the evening. Their presence brought ceremonial grace and reverence, perfectly complementing the reflective tone of the night.

GSF representative Adriana Johnson took to the stage to speak on behalf of the Fund and proudly introduce two of our remarkable Gallipoli Scholars — Ashley Witenden and Mitchell Agnew. Both scholars had recently returned from their journey to Gallipoli for the 2025 ANZAC Day commemorations, serving as a living link between past and present.

We’re also proud to share that ticket sales for the event were linked to donations to the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund, with the money raised on the night supporting our mission of helping descendants of Australian veterans access higher education. The Lone Pine Evening 2025 was more than a commemoration — it was a vibrant, intergenerational gathering that underscored the enduring impact of service, sacrifice, and education. Through shared stories, reflections, and the continued support of our partners and donors, the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund remains committed to honouring the Anzac legacy by providing life-changing educational opportunities to descendants of Australian veterans.”

The 2025 Lone Pine Evening reminded us all of the power of remembrance and the importance of connecting past, present, and future generations. Events like this highlight the critical role GSF plays in fostering leadership, service, and education.
