The 2026 Gallipoli Scholarship Awards marked a significant milestone for the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund, celebrating 30 years of supporting the descendants of Australian and New Zealand Veterans through tertiary education. Held within the stunning new Atrium at the Australian War Memorial on 30 April 2026, this year’s Presentation Ceremony brought together more than 250 guests for an evening of reflection, recognition and celebration.
Now in its most successful year to date, the Fund awarded a record 67 Gallipoli Scholarships and bursaries, including 40 new first year recipients and 27 continuing Scholars. The achievement reflects the growing reach and impact of the Fund since its establishment in 1996.
The commemoration began with all Gallipoli Scholars attending the solemn Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial, where two Scholars laid a wreath in honour of the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand Veterans. The moving tribute set the tone for an evening grounded in remembrance, legacy and opportunity.
Guests then gathered beneath the soaring architecture of the Memorial’s new Atrium, creating a fitting backdrop to celebrate both the legacy of past generations and the promise of future leaders. Scholars, donors, patrons, families and supporters shared in a memorable program that reflected the enduring values of perseverance, courage, self-sacrifice and mateship.
A highlight of the evening was the keynote address delivered by the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Patron-in-Chief of the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund. Her address reinforced the importance of honouring the service of Veterans while supporting the educational aspirations of young Australians.
Throughout the ceremony, Scholars were formally recognised and presented with their bursaries and medallions, each representing a unique family story of service and sacrifice. The evening also acknowledged the extraordinary commitment of the Fund’s donors, supporters, volunteers and mentors whose contributions continue to shape the future of the program.
Guests later gathered for a formal sit-down dinner within the Australian War Memorial, where Scholars, alumni, patrons, donors and supporters shared stories, reflections and connections forged through the Gallipoli Scholarship community. The dinner provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of this year’s Scholars while honouring the enduring legacy of those who served. The evening captured the spirit that has defined the Fund for three decades, recognising the sacrifices of past generations while empowering the leaders of tomorrow.
The following morning, on 1 May, Scholars and guests were welcomed to Government House for a special visit, continuing the tradition of bringing together service, remembrance and community in a uniquely Australian setting.
As the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund celebrates its 30th Anniversary, the 2026 Presentation Ceremony stood as a powerful reminder of the enduring connection between remembrance, education and opportunity.
We thank everyone who contributed to making this year’s event such a memorable and meaningful occasion.
