SYDNEY, 28 August 2025 –
At the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund, we are proud to support events that preserve the Anzac legacy and inspire future leaders. The opening of the Memorial for the Fallen at The Southport School provides a meaningful opportunity to remember the 132 courageous TSS Old Boys who gave their lives in service to Australia and to reflect on the values of courage, sacrifice, and leadership.
“On 8 August 2025, the Chairman of the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund (GSF) was honoured to attend the official opening of the Memorial for the Fallen at The Southport School (TSS) in Queensland. This solemn occasion paid tribute to the 132 courageous TSS Old Boys who gave their lives in service to Australia.
The memorial event, held on the anniversary of the Battle of Lone Pine, brought together students, staff, alumni, and community members in a powerful act of remembrance. Guests were invited to reflect on the sacrifice and service of those who came before them — young men who once walked the halls of TSS and later answered the call to serve their nation.
The memorial was officially opened by Dr Brendan Nelson AO, a long-time supporter of the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund and a passionate advocate for Australia’s veterans. Dr Nelson delivered a deeply moving address on the values of courage, sacrifice, and legacy, reminding all in attendance that remembrance is not just a duty, but a call to honour the past by shaping a better future.
As part of the ceremony, attendees were treated to a special video tribute, including heartfelt reflections from TSS’s Oldest Old Boy, Mr Joffrey Bell, whose presence added depth and continuity to the occasion.
The Gallipoli Scholarship Fund’s involvement in this event underscores the strong alignment between GSF’s mission and the ethos of institutions like The Southport School. GSF exists to support the descendants of Australian veterans in pursuing higher education, carrying forward the Anzac legacy through the empowerment of future leaders. Events such as this reinforce the shared values of remembrance, education, and national service.
GSF is proud to support students from schools like TSS who not only uphold the memory of their Old Boys but also inspire the next generation to lead with honour and purpose. The enduring legacy of the 132 fallen TSS servicemen lives on not only in stone but in the lives and aspirations of young Australians — including Gallipoli Scholars — who carry their memory forward.
To all who attended, contributed, or shared in this special occasion: thank you. Your commitment ensures that the stories of the fallen are not forgotten and that their sacrifice continues to inspire generations to come.“
The 2025 Lone Pine Evening reminded us all of the power of remembrance and the importance of connecting past, present, and future generations. Events like this highlight the critical role GSF plays in fostering leadership, service, and education.
