Mitch Agnew shares how his journey with the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund has been extraordinary, emphasising the warmth and generosity of the GSF family. From support during his transition to university life to forming lasting friendships, Mitch highlights how the GSF has been a vital part of his journey.

“Connection — My journey with GSF has been nothing short of extraordinary. Along the way, I’ve met remarkable people, many of whom I now proudly call close friends. The GSF family embraced me with warmth and generosity, sharing meals, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Every phone call from the GSF team reminded me that I was never alone — I always had someone in my corner, ready to offer support and encouragement.

Support — When I moved interstate for university, GSF became my lifeline. Instead of struggling to find my feet, I could focus on my studies and begin building a life in a new city far from home. Mike, in particular, was a constant source of support, organising gatherings, offering tips to enjoy life in Canberra, and extending his vast network to ensure we were all connected. More than anything, he made it clear that he was always just a call away.

The bursary I was fortunate enough to receive – provided by the Hall Rotary Club expanded that support even further. Knowing I had not only the GSF team but also the incredible backing of Vic and the Hall Rotary community gave me confidence. It is special knowing so many people cared about my journey.

Because of GSF, I was able to settle into Canberra quickly and immerse myself in university life.

Passion — Throughout my GSF journey, the team’s belief in me has never wavered.  I’ve also had the privilege of meeting extraordinary scholars from across Australia, each with their own unique story. The dedication and passion of everyone I have met has left a lasting impression on me, inspiring me to pursue my own goals with the same energy and affirming my choice to move to Canberra for University.

If I had to sum up my GSF experience in one word, it would be enriching. Looking back over these past few years, I’m filled with warmth and gratitude. It’s truly a life changing experience like no other.”
