At the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund, we are committed to fostering the next generation of leaders who embody the values of service, sacrifice, and commitment. Our scholars are individuals who not only excel academically but also carry forward the legacy of those who have served our nation. Today, we are proud to share the story of Stella Artuso, a remarkable young woman whose journey with the GSF is deeply intertwined with the memory of her late grandfather, Neil Patrick Keating Murdoch.

Stella reflects on her experience:

“My late Pop, Neil Patrick Keating Murdoch, is my biggest inspiration, and his sacrifices have enabled me to become a part of the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund. I am lucky to have met and loved my Pop throughout my early childhood, cherishing the memories I have with him. Being part of the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund feels like a natural extension of his legacy, allowing me to honour his memory and continue his tradition of service and commitment.

I am privileged to have been a first-year Scholarship recipient, and most recently, a third-year recipient of the Macintosh Foundation Bursary. This year’s scholarship presentation in Canberra was particularly memorable and special. I felt immense pride wearing my Pop’s medals and attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial, remembering, and honoring all those who made sacrifices for our country.

The scholarship presentation itself took place at the Governor General’s home, which was an experience I will never forget. Having my academic achievements and necessitous circumstances acknowledged and commended by His Excellency himself was a profound honour. It felt as though I was not only celebrating my own accomplishments but also paying tribute to the legacy of my Pop.

Being a recipient of the GSF and being able to connect with a community of individuals who are equally passionate about remembrance and academic excellence, has profoundly inspired and motivated my own academic journey and future aspirations. The foundation has provided me with not only financial assistance but reminded me of the importance of my responsibility in upholding the values of service and sacrifice that my Pop and many other veterans exemplified. I will be forever grateful for the GSF and i am committed to making the most of all the opportunities I am given.”

Stella’s journey with the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund is a powerful reminder of the enduring impact that the values of service and sacrifice have on future generations. We are honoured to support scholars like Stella as they continue to uphold these traditions and inspire others to do the same.
